Recovery Month: September 2003
|
|
In September 2003 we will celebrate the 14th annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. This month is set aside to highlight the strides made in substance abuse treatment, and to educate the public that addiction is a chronic, but treatable public health problem that affects us all.
This year's theme " Join the Voices for Recovery: Celebrating Health." Encourages everyone to help incorporate community treatment and recovery services as an integral part of the public health system. Activities will be conducted through out the state. You can check out "what's happening" on www.recoverymonth.gov. A state map will appear, click on the state map and activities, events, and points of contacts will be listed. Don't hesitate to call us at 334-262-1629 or email at csancadd@bellsouth.
Alabama Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Sunday:
September 21, 2003 has been designated as Alabama Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Sunday. Faith-based organizations throughout the state will be celebrating Recovery Month by dedicating their Sunday services to individuals, who are in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction, and their families. Educating the public reduces the stigma associated with addiction and treatment. Accurate knowledge of the disease helps people to understand the importance of supporting treatment programs, those who work within the treatment field, and those in need of treatment. We are excited to have our Alabama faith-based community involved in this important public awareness health campaign. The Alabama Clergy Coalition, comprised of more than 20 church organizations representing approximately 10,000 Alabama churches, participates in many statewide prevention, treatment, and recovery activities.
We invite you and your congregation to join the voices of the Alabama Recovery Network! Friends of Recovery-Alabama by “Celebrating Health” on September 21, 2003. Spirituality plays an important role in addiction recovery, and we would like to recognize that role by dedicating this day as “Recovery Month Sunday.”
