The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) serves many purposes in the community. The YAB will work to help promote COSA-NCADD's mission and educate their peers on the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The board serves as a link between the youth, their schools and City Council. YAB also promotes a positive image of youth by encouraging youth to participate in community issues. YAB is a place to express ideas and opinions while building leadership skills. Members also learn about the city they live in and ways to improve it. YAB welcomes any student who is in seventh through twelfth grade. YAB also expects members to abstain from any alcohol, tobacco, or other drug use. The YAB seeks youth who are interested in giving input on community and youth issues. Members should feel comfortable working with schools, other youth and local government. The YAB offers a unique leadership opportunity for youth who would like to take a special role within their city. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month from 4:00-5:00 p.m. The YAB has participated in various events including leadership retreats and conferences, media campaigns, public service announcements, health fairs, and other community events.
